Both Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung were very interested in the dream world. In 1909, they both gave lectures on psychoanalysis at Clark University, Worcester, Massachusetts. Some of the lectures featured murder in dreams.
Carl Jung believed that if you dream about murder, it indicates the future, not the past. Sigmund Freud believed that we should live in the moment and not think about the past as thinking of mistakes made is detrimental to mental health. According to him, dreaming about murder indicated what was going on in the present.
Carl Jung wrote some papers on how murder divided people, those who killed and those who didn’t. He believed that when we dream about murder, we are looking for our deepest wishes and desires to come true.

In 2014, in a sleep lab in Germany, a test was conducted to see if the scientists could find out more about dreaming of murder. A total of 443 students took part in this experiment to see if people who dreamed about murder had similar traits. However, it was found that only 3% of them had dreams about murder. This could lead you to believe that murder is not part of many people’s subconscious. It is something we have probably told ourselves not to think about as it is so unpleasant. The 3% who did dream about murder were found to be introverted and had trouble connecting with other people.
In other tests, it has been discovered that people who watch violent movies or play computer games just before bed have more of a tendency to dream about murder.
